Hundreds of Flock cameras were set to be canceled but will remain online for now. The cameras were at risk of being shut down due to an order from Gov. Greg Abbott blocking state agencies from spending money on them.
There are 684 Flock cams in total, with nearly half paid for by the state and the rest not at risk of being shut down. These cameras serve as license plate readers, allowing officers to quickly track plates. They have been helpful in solving cases, with police citing their role in solving 13% of business-related cases.
Further details on the Flock cameras and their use are available from the police department.
